Questions And Answers

The doctors at Appalachian Foot & Ankle Associates participate with Medicare, Medicaid, Aetna, Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Cigna, United Healthcare, Medcost, Crescent and will submit claims to most other commercial health insurance carriers. We also accept most Medicare Advantage Plans.

Most insurance carriers do not require a referral for podiatric evaluation and treatment at our offices. It is advisable to check with your insurance carrier. Workers’ Compensation cases are accepted on a case-by-case basis with prior authorization from the employer / insurance carrier.

Be prepared to spend approximately one hour at your first visit. This will involve completing demographic, insurance, health history, and other paperwork required to register you in the office. Your first examination may possibly include x-rays.

A treatment plan will be initiated along with instructions, prescriptions, and / or equipment needed for your care. Please come prepared with a list of current medications and any questions you may have.

You may download the necessary forms from this website and complete them prior to your first visit. This will save you time and expedite your treatment. We make every effort to provide excellent podiatric care and to be mindful of your time. 

We do suggest you inquire, prior to your visit, with your insurance carrier on how your benefits cover services.

All of our doctors at Appalachian Foot & Ankle Associates are residency trained and maintain credentials to perform surgery. Our doctors are on staff at Mission Hospitals, Pardee Hospital, The McDowell Hospital, Asheville Surgery Center, and the Orthopedic Surgery Center. 

Our Asheville office is equipped with a surgical suite for procedures that can be performed under local anesthetic.

Many of our patients are children. We enjoy referrals from many local pediatric groups and family practice physicians. 

 Conditions that we commonly treat our pediatric patients for include and are not limited to: ingrown toenails, warts (viral infections), flat feet, injuries, heel pain, foreign body removal, and dermatological conditions of the foot. 

 Many of our treatment plans for children are developed to encourage active patient and family participation.
